Care Instructions
When it comes to washing and caring for functional materials, it is often more challenging than the average t-shirt, but do not fear, it is not a science. In the following we have compiled the most important information for the care of our jackets and coats and ask you to consider two basic things:
- The rule of thumb applied to the frequency of washing - as often as necessary and as seldom as possible. This not only protects the resources, but also the babywearing jacket, whose functionality (e.g. breathability, wind and rain proofed) can be impaired by frequent washing. Sometimes it is enough to air the jacket (especially wool) or to treat affected areas with a damp cloth.
- Please always pay attention to the directions on the care label (water temperature, wash cycle and drying method), because each jacket type has its own materials, which in turn have their own care requirements.
Do not underestimate the need to use the correct washing or impregnation product. The products recommended by mamalila can be found here in our online shop.

The Right Care for Your mamalila Babywearing Jacket
All of our babywearing jackets are simultaneously functional jackets and therefore require the correct care. Here are some tips and tricks to help you enjoy your mamalila jacket over an extended time: 1. Gentle Pre-treatment:For stubborn stains, first soak the jacket in clear water for a few minutes and treat the stains with a cloth, if necessary with a little detergent.
2. Washing in the Washing Machine:
The Right Detergent: Please use a fine liquid detergent (not a wool detergent) or a detergent special for sports and outdoor wear. Why:
| |
Important – never use fabric softener!
| |
3. Drying:Your jacket can be tumble dried (according to the care label) or air dried. Drying in the dryer is advisable for functional textiles, as the outer impregnation, which repels water, is naturally refreshed and lasts longer this way.
4. Ironing:If necessary, you can iron your jacket on level 1.
| |
5. Impregnation:After three to five washes you should re-impregnate the jacket. Please use an FC/PFC free product (e.g. Nikwax TX.direct® as a spray or washing liquid, available in the mamalila-Shop).
|
The Right Care for Your mamalila Woolen Products (Hooded Coat/Babywearing Cover)
The mamalila hooded coat is made from 100% boiled wool, a material that is naturally thermoregulating, dirt and odour repellent. Your babywearing coat therefore does not need much care, and as the natural qualities of the wool are lessened with each wash, in this case (the same applies to the mamalila woollen cover) less is truly more. Some tips for the care of your woollen products:
1. AiringFor a fresh feeling when wearing your coat/cover it is often enough to air it.
| |
2. WashingThe right detergent is essential! It is important that you only use a suitable, special wool detergent and that then only in small quantities.
Wash in the bath: Should it be absolutely necessary to wash the coat, we recommend washing it in a bathtub with a small amount of wool detergent and plenty of water (about 30°C). The same applies for the wool cover.
| |
3. Drying:Roll the coat into a towel and squeeze the excess water gently out.
4. Dry cleaning:Alternatively, you can opt to have your coat dry cleaned with special cleansing agents (R113, R11, perchlorethylene and hydrocarbons).

Caring for Your mamalila Cotton Coat
The mamalila cotton coat with wind proof membrane and water repellent coating is also a functional garment and should therefore only be washed if it is really necessary. Note: The babywearing coat from laminated organic cotton is made from very high quality materials. Due to the fineness of the fabric, heavy use can lead to colour changes on the edges and seams, frequent washing likewise. Additional care tips:
| 1. Washing, drying, ironingThe mamalila babywearing coat from organic cotton can be washed in the washing machine.
|
2. Impregnation:When the water repellency of the short coat begins to wear off, the outer coat should be re-impregnated with a cotton specific product (e.g. Cotton Proof from Nikwax) to refresh the rain protection.
| |
Note: The babywearing coat from lined organic cotton is made of very high quality materials. Due to the fineness of the fabric, the fabric may fade on points of stress (e.g. pockets) or if washed on a non-gentle cycle. |
